Have you ever wondered how some authors can claim that the founding fathers of America were Christians while other authors claim that those very same founders were atheists, deists or even theistic rationalists? In this artfully written volume, Christian apologist and debater Bill Fortenberry examines several of the quotes from our founding fathers that are frequently used to argue against the Christian heritage of America. In doing so, Mr. Fortenberry opens up to us a treasury of facts about our nation's founding that have been hidden by modern scholarship.

Did you know that Benjamin Franklin only experimented with deism as a teenager and that he soon rejected it entirely? Did you know that at the age of twenty-nine he wrote three, bold defenses of his Christian faith?

Did you know that John Adams called the French Enlightenment thinkers cowards and atheists who were destitute of common sense? Did you know that he frequently referred to Jesus Christ as his Savior?

Did you know that George Washington recorded a prayer expressing his acceptance of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for his sins? Did you know that he left the Masonic Lodge as a young man, that he denied being a member of any lodge during the founding era of our nation and that he referred to masonry as being mere child's play?

By opening and bringing to light the original writings of the founding era, Bill Fortenberry provides American Christians with an invaluable defense of our nation’s Christian heritage.

Hidden Facts of the Founding Era eBook Bill Fortenberry Reviews

Shows the real feelings toward Christianity of our founding fathers. And backs it up with the actual letters and documents.
You might be able to watch Chris Pinto's "documentary" on YouTube for free, but it'd be more worthwhile to spend the mere $2.99 on a work that's actually rooted in accurately researched historical facts. This outstanding rebuttal from author Bill Fortenberry exposes Pinto's work to be what it is a poor attempt at historical revisionism.

I will not venture to label Chris Pinto a "pseudo-historian" (I'm no Chris Rodda), but if he wishes to consider himself to be a historian, then he's not a very good one. Having seen Pinto's film and read some of his articles, I had questioned many of his assertions and conclusions as they simply did not match up with what I had learned from extensive studies of my own concerning the historical figures in question. Pinto starts with an assumption that he then has to desperately concoct points of evidence to support. Fortenberry hits on the many instances in which Pinto massages quotes to favor his points and even manufactures quotes seemingly out of thin air.

Beginning with Pinto's complete misrepresentation of Charles Thompson, Fortenberry exposes a common problem with most of Pinto's work he simply butchers actual quotations. Add to this Pinto's failing to acknowledge the numerous examples, said by him and about him, of Thompson professing to be a Christian, and Pinto thinks he can turn Thompson into something he wasn't on the basis of one chopped up quote! He really should be embarrassed with such poor research.

In addressing Pinto's discussion of Thomas Paine, he makes the Founders out to have love Paine when the exact opposite is the case. Pinto provides one quote of John Adams as if it was said in praise of Paine when it was the opposite. Fortenberry provides numerous instances of Adams expressing his deep, dare I say it, hatred of Thomas Paine. In my extensive studies of Adams for which I will soon be publishing a book on, I can attest to Fortenberry's conclusions that simply put, Adams and the majority of the Founders thought Paine to be a blasphemous infidel who tried to discredit Christianity and completely failed, and who also was completely incompetent in terms of political science.

Throughout the rest of the book, Fortenberry highlights instances where Pinto is completely off base in his attacks levied against the likes of Jefferson, Franklin, Adams and Washington. Fortenberry reveals how simple it is to research the actual quotes which Pinto cites and how so many times it's as if Pinto was just copy/pasting false quotes from an amateur atheist/secularist blog. Probably the best section of the book is Fortenberry's research and analysis regarding the "infamous" Treaty of Tripoli (1797). It is one of the best evaluations of the document that I've seen from any writer or historian to date.

At less than 100 pages ( format), the book is a relatively easy read. Fortenberry provides accurate citations and many of them at that to present a much more truthful presentation of these particular Founding Fathers who were focused on in Pinto's film. I'm not usually a fan of author's basing an entire work on a refutation of another's work, but in this case I can make an exception. Pinto's work is extremely amateurish and reeks of poor research. Such shoddy workmanship should be corrected and Fortenberry easily succeeds in that endeavor.

If you're looking for some truth about the Founding Fathers and the influence of Christianity on the founding of the United States, please don't think that watching Pinto's free documentary on YouTube is sufficient enough. Save the money that you would spend at McDonald's tomorrow and invest it in something more worthwhile, like buying a copy of this book. You should learn much more of the truth of Early American history and hopefully learn that atheists aren't the only secularist threats working to erase and replace our past. In this particular case, I'm left baffled as to why a professed Christian like Pinto would want to attack the influence of Christianity in America.

The only good thing about Pinto's work is that because his attempts failed so miserably, perhaps they would have the adverse effect and do more damage to the secularist movement instead. Fortenberry on the other hand, has put together a commendable piece that can be appreciated by those honestly seeking information about this area of American History.
The book is well written and supports its assertions with evidence shown in full context. It has so much historical evidence that I'm glad to have it to use as a reference.

It's such an easy read that I enjoyed reading it casually - except for the section documenting the parts of the constitution relating to Bible versus. That section is for evidence and reference and is appropriately a list of information rather than entertaining reading. I still read it all, though.

No matter which side of the founding fathers' religion debate one subscribes to, this is a must read as it clearly explains its conclusions.
We are living in a strange times indeed. We expect historical misrepresentations about the Christian origins of America to be advocated and promoted by the secular humanists. After all, these folks have been busy undermining America's Christian heritage for at least the last 100 years. However, we certainly do not expect these same types of attacks to come from our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. We especially do not expect humanistic arguments to emanate from so-called "discernment ministries." Yet, many of these ministries are today marching lockstep with the humanist agenda by regurgitating the same old historical arguments in order to prove that America was not founded as a Christian nation. Chris Pinto of Adullam Films is such an individual who is seeking, both in print and in film, to convince the Christian public that Christianity had little or nothing to do with the foundation of America. Pinto presents a familiar array of misconceptions and half truths in order to accomplish his goal. Among them are crediting Thomas Paine with the American Revolution, The Treaty of Tripoli's Article Eleven, the alleged Masonic influence upon George Washington, Washington's abstention from taking communion, etc ... Bill Fortenberry's book "Hidden Facts of the Founding Era" annihilates Chris Pinto's arguments point by point by appealing to contextually quoted primary sources (rather than by merely quoting the secondary scholarly literature that is all too frequently written by those who have obvious humanistic presuppositions). In fact, I have been reading books on America's Christian heritage for many years. I have yet to find an author who counter argues from primary sources better than Fortenberry. Consequently, Fortenberry's book consistently exposes Pinto for being either incompetent, unscholarly, and the purveyor of shabby and sloppy workmanship or for being agenda driven, dishonest, and deceptive. In fact, Fortenberry's book, assuming that it is not simply ignored by them, will likely put Pinto and his disciples into full-blown damage control mode. Fortenberry sticks to the historical facts and allows the reader to form his or her own conclusions regarding Pinto's motives. Rather than being victimized by the propaganda regarding America's "Godless" underpinnings, the reader is instead encouraged to purchase, read, and absorb Fortenberry's book. If you believe that it is high time to give God the credit He deserves for our freedom and prosperity as Americans, then this book is a great place to start.
